FIVL for Foreigners
Insurance for foreign pilots and Italians resident abroad
Italian law requires third party liability cover of at least 1.6 million euros, and that cover must include:
- damage caused by gross negligence;
- the insurer's obligation to compensate the injured party directly;
- a ban on the insurer raising against the injured third party, within the limits of the insured sum, any exception arising from the contract, or any clause making the insured contribute to the compensation, without prejudice to the insurer's right of recourse against the insured in the cases and to the extent the contract provides;
- cover extended to damage caused to any person other than the insured, with no limitation based on family, professional or similar relationships.
If your own insurance provides at least this and is valid in Italy, you can fly here legally.
The FIVL policy
If it does not, FIVL offers a policy designed for foreign pilots who want to fly in our country. It covers single-seater third party liability for 2.5 million euros, well above the legal requirement, and it is valid for 30 days from the date it is taken out, renewable. Territorial validity is Italy only.
What it costs
- FIVL special membership: € 10,00, valid for the current calendar year.
- Insurance: € 30,00, valid for 30 days, cover limit 2,500,000 euros.
If you are already a FIVL member the insurance costs € 30,00. If you are not yet a member, the payment is € 40,00.
How to apply
Send all of the following to the FIVL office, at fivl@fivl.it:
- the FIVL membership form, which you can download with the button below;
- a copy of your identity document or passport, valid for travel in Italy, and your tax code or SSN if you have one;
- a copy of your certificate of residency;
- a copy of the FAI IPPI Card issued by your country of origin, level 3 or above;
- a copy of the payment, made by bank transfer to Unicredit Banca in favour of ASD FIVL: IT 16P 02008 01122 000101160192, BIC UNCRITM1AC2.
