Foreword

Free flight in Italy is closely regulated by law. What follows reflects those requirements, so that pilots coming to fly in Italy know the rules that govern hang gliding and paragliding here. Disregarding them is a law infringement, with the penalties that come with it.

General

Every site has its own features, and every visiting pilot is asked to follow the local indications closely, both for how the site flies and for how it is reached, so that no argument arises with the landowners. The life of our sites depends on those relationships.

There are approximately 180 hang gliding and paragliding clubs in Italy. Each of them will have negotiated permission to fly the sites in its area, and those sites come with their own rules. Before travelling to Italy for a flying trip, always contact the clubs of the region you are heading for, through this site. The site managers can tell you about restrictions tied to the time of day, the season or a local event, and they can save you a wasted journey: their indications are not to be disregarded.

Insurance

Italian law requires third party cover of at least 1.6 million euros. What that cover has to include, and the policy FIVL offers if yours falls short.

IPPI card

Carry your IPPI card, so that clubs can check you are qualified for their sites. Level 4 is the minimum for cross country flying.
